>Please spread the word for those who ask: the Library made $530. from Saturday’s fundraising dance for a 24/7 drop box! These funds came from the dance admissions and from additional donations for the drop box. About 75 people attended the dance. It was fun!

Thanks to all who came, participated, donated, danced, and organized! Special thanks to the Friends of the Library (for refreshments) and to the Library Board’s Program Committee, who organized the dance (Phil Holtegaard, Sandy Kiel, and Jackie Rehm)!

Where we go from here: After much consultation, it was decided that the drop box will be located in the airlock area between the two doors entering into the Library Lobby. It will be freestanding, but bolted to walls and floor; the holding receptacle can be wheeled by library staff down the handicapped accessibility ramp; we understand that this will be handicapped-compliant.

  • The Library Board (with your help!) will pay for the drop box and installation; there is a possibility that some elements may be donated.
  • The City Council has agreed to pay for new locks on both inside and outside doors so that the interior door is locked when the Library is closed but the outer door is unlocked 24/7.
  • City Council Member Vince Jeannette has offered to donate a security camera and its installation so that that area may be monitored as a further deterrence from vandalism.

Thanks to the generosity of the City Council and Vince, costs will come in lower than our original estimate!

I will be speaking with Sandy Kiel about the estimated completion date for this project: we are all excited for it to happen as soon as possible. Please contact Sandy at 467-9605 or at sacredclayfarm@acegroup.cc if you have any further questions.

Special note: If you could not attend the dance and would like to donate towards the book drop, please leave your donation at the Library or make your check payable to “Lanesboro Public Library” (write “book drop” in memo line), PO Box 330, Lanesboro.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT! Drue
