>The Lanesboro Farmers Market season opens Wednesday, May 3, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Sylvan Park. Saturday markets will be held from 9:00 a.m. to noon, beginning May 6. This year an expanded group of vendors will offer fresh and local produce, eggs, breads, canned goods, plants, cut flowers and other items.

The Lanesboro Public Library and Village Foods Grocery are joining the Market to co-sponsor a special event on Saturday, May 6 at the Lanesboro Community Center. It is free and open to all. At noon a light lunch featuring homemade breads and soups will be served. From 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. the short film Voices of Minnesota Farm Women will be shown. An informal discussion will follow. Several area growers and farmers have been invited to attend to participate in the discussion. People considering starting small, farm-based businesses or in becoming Farmers Market vendors are especially welcome to attend this event. Voices of Minnesota Farm Women is based on oral history interviews of ten contemporary farm women involved in sustainable agriculture and local food systems. The women describe their personal satisfactions in earning their living by raising food for people and the benefits that this way of life provides for families and communities.
