>With free online access at the Lanesboro Public Library, registering to vote this season is easier than ever. Through participation in a nationwide non-partisan voter registration initiative co-sponsored by the American Library Association and Working Assets, the Lanesboro Public Library is offering all eligible voters the opportunity to register or update their voter registration information online directly through the Library’s computer workstations. Voters can also register on their home computer – at www.yourvotematters.org/ala. Once the registration process is complete, voters will need to print out, sign, and mail in their registration form.

Although the Minnesota voter registration deadline is October 12th, voters can still register and vote on election day by providing a picture ID and/or a utility bill with their current address on it at their polling place.

“Libraries have always served their communities by providing the information resources needed to be informed citizens,” said American Library Association President Carla Hayden. “Libraries are community centers offering information on voter registration, hosting forums, and providing resources about issues of concern in the community and the nation. Our public libraries are a perfect fit for this critical civic activity.”

To help Lanesboro area residents keep informed about the electoral process and the various issues and candidates on the ballot this year, the Library has prepared a non-partisan book display for adults and kids and will offer free Minnesota Voter Guides and other information starting in October.
