>Thursday, June 7th, 6:30 pm, in the Community Center Gym.

Super sleuths and daring detectives are invited to “Get A Clue” by attending this year’s Summer Reading Program Kick-Off with “Lucy and Friends” on Thursday, June 7th at 6:30 p.m. in the Lanesboro Community Center Gym. Enjoy songs, storytelling, and ventriloquism with Lucy and her parade of animal puppets! Sign up for the reading program and pick up your reading log and schedule at 6:30, then enjoy the show at 7:00! Treats to follow.

As usual, the Library will be open after the Kick-Off, but with a surprise this year: thanks to the Friends of the Library, we have purchased many new kids’ books for all ages that we are stockpiling until just after the Kick-Off. So, be sure to stop down at the Library after the Kick-Off to get first dibs on these brand new titles. Again this year, more books as prizes! We’ve already had lots of interest in this year’s program, and with the last Harry Potter book and a new Nancy Drew movie coming out, let’s try to beat last year’s record participation!

Summer shouldn’t mean taking a break from learning, especially reading. Studies show that most students experience a loss of reading skills over the summer months, but children who continue to read actually gain skills! The 2007 Summer Reading Program is the place to read this summer with great books, programs, prize drawings, story hours, and more. Get A Clue activities will have participants solving mysteries and deciphering codes, and readers will receive incentives for reaching reading goals.

This program is free and open to all and runs through June and July. It is made possible by support from the Friends of the Lanesboro Public Library.
