>This summer’s reading program, Catch the Beat at Your Library, at the Lanesboro Public Library was even more successful than usual, with more active readers, more prizes, and lots of fun! Special thanks are due to: Coordinator Stela Burdt, The Friends of the Library (for funding towards Bovee and Heil’s kick-off performance), The Lanesboro Community Theatre (for helping fund the Winona International Dancers), the Rose H. Bell Buy-A-Book Fund and the Lanesboro Fire Department (for children’s books), Lynn Bunge (for Stories and Songs), Diane Burdt, Stefanie Dickens, Sarah Fogal, Holly Lidtke, Richard Mahoney, Eliza Mitchell, Doris O’Dell, and all the other great volunteers and supportive community members! Highlights were the kick-off with traditional American song and dance, musical storytimes with Lynn Bunge as well as Librarian Drue, and a final fun night of dances from around the world with the Winona International Dancers.
98 kids signed up, and there were 53 active readers – both record numbers! Plus, over 50% of those who signed up participated – another record! Pre-readers read a total of 510 books, elementary readers read 338 hours, and teen readers read 8,000 pages! About 110 people attended the kick-off and 179 more participated in other programs. Winners of the final prizes are: Maggie Decker, Jared Dyreson, Jenna Dyreson, Rachel Eversole, Alyssa Gathje, Regan Howerton, Alex Knutson, Katarina Miehlisch, Sabrina Neneman, Sarah Obritsch, Weston Ohl, Claire Peterson, Olivia Rogers, Caitlyn Ruen, Tyler Ruen, Collin Scott, Halle Scott, Josie Semmen, Linnea Thiss, and Mitchell Walbridge. Congratulations and thanks again to everyone who participated or helped with Catch the Beat at Your Library!
